Job summary

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in Ash is seeking an organised Dog Intake professional to coordinate calls and enquiries, plan dog arrivals, and maintain accurate records ensuring the welfare of every dog.

This is a fixed-term (12 months) role, 40 hours per week with some weekends/bank holidays. You will work with the Dog Intake team to support owners, manage vaccination history, and safeguard policies while delivering empathetic service.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating calls and enquiries to intake lines, answering questions and explaining intake policies and procedures.
• Scheduling dogs to come into Battersea efficiently and in line with operational requirements.
• Providing high-quality customer service over the telephone while following safeguarding policies.
• Gathering dog behavioural and medical histories before arrival, including vaccination status.
• Welcoming dogs on arrival, recording observations and pre-admission histories in the central database.
• Carrying out investigations to help establish ownership of dogs.
• Operating the Lost Dogs line and supporting reunification efforts.

Our Dog Operations team plays a vital role in ensuring every dog receives the highest standards of welfare and care throughout their journey with Battersea – from intake and assessment through to rehoming.

As part of our Dog Intake team, you’ll be a key point of contact for people seeking help and support for a dog. You’ll coordinate calls and enquiries, provide clear and compassionate advice, and help ensure every dog’s arrival is planned safely and efficiently.

This is a varied and rewarding role where your organisation, communication skills and commitment to animal welfare will make a real difference to dogs and the people who care for them.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Coordinating calls and enquiries to our intake lines, answering questions and explaining Battersea’s intake policies and procedures.
• Scheduling dogs to come into Battersea efficiently and in line with operational requirements, working closely with Intake Team Leaders.
• Providing high-quality customer service and support over the telephone, while following our safeguarding and vulnerable people policies.
• Gathering accurate behavioural and medical histories for each dog before they arrive, including import history and vaccination status for dogs coming from overseas.
• Welcoming dogs on arrival, settling them into appropriate kennels and recording behavioural observations and pre-admission histories on our central database.
• Carrying out investigations to help establish ownership of dogs coming into our care.
• Operating our Lost Dogs line and supporting efforts to reunite dogs with their families, both within Battersea and beyond.
