Job summary

West Midlands Combined Authority is seeking an experienced Head of Traffic Signals Technology and Design to steer the region's traffic signal and ITS strategy across Birmingham and the West Midlands. You will lead a growing team, coordinate with local authorities and partners, and align network management with major transport initiatives, including bus franchising.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in delivering city-wide traffic engineering solutions.
• Experience managing complex projects and programmes with significant budgets.
• Experience managing traffic signal networks and urban traffic control systems.
• Experience developing and leading teams.
• Experience establishing and managing complex contracts.
• Demonstrable senior-level communication skills.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety responsibilities in traffic management.

Responsibilities

• Manage and lead the traffic signals technology design team.
• Provide strategic planning and decision-making expertise.
• Lead TfWM's control and coordination of traffic network management, focusing on public transport.
• Develop network management plans for the Key Route Network and bus corridors.
• With funding, lead a specialist technical programme for the region's traffic signal apprentices.
• Prepare and deliver briefings, reports and presentations for key stakeholders.
• Lead all traffic signal design to meet national standards.
• Manage budgets and resources.
• Identify funding opportunities and prepare funding applications.
