Job summary

SYSTRA UK & Ireland is seeking an Engineer (Highways) in Birmingham to design road, drainage and active travel schemes from feasibility through detailed design, collaborating with public and private sector clients across local and strategic networks.

You will lead design tasks under senior guidance, coordinate with disciplines, support approvals, and help deliver projects safely, on time and within budget, applying standards such as DMRB, MfS and local guides.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering highway and drainage schemes.
• Knowledge of standards (DMRB, MfS, TSM) and Local Authority guides.
• Ability to coordinate across disciplines and manage junior staff.
• Awareness of budget, time and quality constraints.

Responsibilities

• Prepare preliminary through to detailed design for road, drainage and active travel infrastructure.
• Prepare designs in compliance with appropriate standards (DMRB, MCHW, MfS, TSM, Local Authority guides).
• Obtain statutory approvals.
• Provide design support to construction phases.
• Prepare designs on projects under the direction of more senior team members.
• Coordinate technical outputs and liaise with project teams to ensure fully coordinated designs.
