As a Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Strategic Growth Office Aumni team, you will lead a technical area and drive impact within teams, technologies, and projects across departments. Utilize your in-depth knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to drive multiple complex projects and initiatives, while serving as a primary decision-maker for your teams and being a driver of innovation and solution delivery. We are building something to be proud of; Aumni, at the intersection of entrepreneurship and venture capital, is creating a unique platform with data and tools for VC investors. Reporting directly to the Global Head of Engineering, you will oversee the business segment where the majority of our customers register.

Job responsibilities

1. Partner with Product and Revenue organizations to prioritize the roadmap.
2. Provide leadership to three globally distributed teams, approximately 20 people in size, with plans for further growth this year.
3. Collaborate with Product teams to understand the roadmap and requirements, set priorities, and work with Engineering Managers to ensure delivery.
4. Join the Architecture governance board to gain a comprehensive view across the entire application.
5. Lead technology and process implementations to achieve functional technology objectives.
6. Hold accountability for decisions affecting teams’ resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution of processes and procedures.
7. Ensure governance over coding decisions, control obligations, and measures of success such as cost of ownership, maintainability, and portfolio operations.
8. Deliver technical solutions that can be leveraged across multiple businesses and domains.
9. Influence peer leaders and senior stakeholders across business, product, and technology teams.
10. Champion the firm’s culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and expert applied experience. Proven experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate, and solve complex technical issues within your domain of expertise. Background in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
• Experience with Java or Kotlin on the backend and React on the frontend.
• Experience developing or leading cross-functional teams of technologists.
• Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent.
• Experience managing managers within a product-driven engineering organization.
• Practical cloud-native experience on at least one Cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and conditions. Effectively manage complexity and change. Quickly learn new technologies and patterns. Comfortable operating in uncharted waters.
• Ability to see the long-term by choosing suitable technologies and approaches based on end goals.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and (micro)services with frameworks like Spring Boot.
• Experience working on globally distributed applications with strict consistency requirements.
• Knowledge of modern software architecture patterns.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Experience with GraphQL and Kafka is advantageous.
