Join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as our next Director of Finance

With an annual revenue budget of £4.65b and a capital spend annually of £70m, this represents around a quarter of the overall Health spend in Scotland. We provide a range of integrated acute hospital, primary care, community and mental health services in communities across the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.

We are a strong values driven organisation whose overall purpose is to protect and improve population health and wellbeing whilst providing safe, accessible, affordable, integrated person centred and high quality health services.

At this critically important time, the successful candidate will have oversight and responsibility across a highly complex NHS system and on appointment will be expected to grasp, at pace, the short and medium–term finances of our NHS Board and the resulting impact on service and resource planning.

This role requires a deep understanding of financial systems and processes of a large and complex organisation combined with the financial leadership required to focus attention on achieving long term financial sustainability against a backdrop of public sector funding.

We are seeking candidates who will share our ambitions to drive change, to be innovative and collaborative and to continuously improve, personally leading programmes of work required to achieve financial balance and delivering better value for money. The post holder will prioritise bringing innovative ways to build on our Sustainability and Value Programme.

Working with an established and highly committed senior finance team directing around 250 finance staff, including Payroll services, you will be responsible for ensuring that detailed financial plans are developed and delivered in such a way that maintain the highest standards of probity and control.

The scale, profile and political complexity of this opportunity should not be underestimated and therefore requires a high degree of resilience, tactical skills combined with the ability to deal with ambiguity. Inspiring and credible communication and influencing skills are all essential attributes.

As a professionally credible finance leader you will role model compassionate and collaborative leadership. Applicants should demonstrate significant post-qualification experience with extensive Board level leadership experience preferably within the NHS or other comparable Public /Private sector organisation.

Educated to degree level with relevant post-graduate qualification to masters level and as a Qualified Accountant it is essential you will hold full qualification in one of the recognised Consultative Committee of Accounting Bodies (CCAB) or CIMA.
