Job summary

The South London & Maudsley (SLaM) Clinical Informatics Service (CIS) supports clinical decision-making through the effective use of data. Working with clinicians, CIS develops tools that help staff use clinical information to improve patient care, service quality and equity. The service draws on the expertise and data resources of the Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to support a learning health system across the Trust. CIS develops and maintains LUCI (Locating Useful Clinical Information), a platform that uses analytics and interactive visualisation to provide clinicians with insights for direct care and service improvement. The postholder will support the implementation and adoption of LUCI, ensuring it meets clinical needs and workflows. They will work with teams to identify opportunities for improvement, design and deliver training, support initiatives such as "train the trainer", provide clinical input into new tools, and champion clinical informatics and data skills. The role is suitable for applicants from nursing, pharmacy, occupational therapy or other allied health professional backgrounds. Coding skills are not required; knowledge of clinical data and workflows is more important. Full induction and support will be provided by clinicians, developers, informaticians and academics.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a clinical advocate in the development, implementation and adoption of Clinical Informatics Service projects, providing support during implementation. Support governance, risk management and compliance activities alongside Clinical Leads.
• Validate clinical data outputs and ensure they accurately reflect clinical practice.
• Work with Digital, Quality Improvement and clinical teams to identify improvement opportunities and mitigate risks associated with digital tools.
• Provide specialist advice and guidance on health informatics to support high‑quality care.
• Represent the needs of patients and staff in the design and development of informatics solutions.
• Maintain professional competence, promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Support research, education and dissemination of best practice in digital healthcare and data.
• Represent the Clinical Informatics Service at Trust and partner forums.
• Maintain reporting systems for digital incidents, risks and performance measures.
• Develop and deliver training materials and education programmes. Resolve issues arising between clinical services and digital technologies.
• Ensure policies, procedures and governance standards are maintained.
• Build effective relationships with suppliers, stakeholders and partners.
• Provide mentoring and specialist support for Clinical System Programmes.
• Support development, monitoring and reporting of service KPIs.

About the Location

The job will be based at the IoPPN Main Building, part of the wider Denmark Hill campus shared by SLaM and King's College London. The IoPPN main building is home to theInstitute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience.

Denmark Hill is very well connected and staff can reach Victoria or Blackfriars stations in 10 minutes by train, and East London is 25 minutes by overground.
