Being a Digital Engagement Officer

As a Digital Engagement Officer, you’ll play an important role in helping Kent Fire and Rescue Service communicate clearly, consistently and accessibly with both our colleagues and the communities we serve.

You’ll be part of a professional and collaborative Engagement and Education team, working alongside colleagues across the service to make sure people can find, understand and use the information they need.

This is a varied role, combining hands‑on digital content management with stakeholder engagement, accessibility, governance and continuous improvement. You’ll have the opportunity to shape how KFRS uses its digital channels, while contributing to communications that ultimately help keep people safe.

You’ll work in a supportive environment where your expertise is valued and where you’ll have opportunities to develop your skills and make a tangible difference.

What you’ll do

You’ll help make sure our digital content is accurate, accessible, engaging and easy to find.

  • Managing and maintaining content across the KFRS website and SharePoint Online intranet.
  • Creating and editing clear, engaging content, including turning complex or technical information into accessible, plain‑language communications.
  • Working with subject matter experts and colleagues across the service to develop, review and improve content.
  • Coordinating content reviews, audits and governance processes to ensure information remains accurate, relevant and up to date.
  • Applying accessibility standards and best practice to digital content and supporting colleagues to do the same.
  • Improving the structure, navigation, metadata and organisation of content so people can find what they need quickly and easily.
  • Using analytics, user feedback and evidence to identify opportunities to improve digital content and its impact.
  • Providing advice, guidance and training to colleagues on content creation, digital publishing, accessibility and best practice.
  • Supporting communications for organisational change and transformation projects.
  • Working with the wider Engagement and Education team on campaigns and corporate communications.
  • Supporting emergency communications during significant incidents and participating in the duty press office rota, including regular out‑of‑hours work.
What you’ll bring
  • Strong writing, editing and communication skills.
  • Practical knowledge of digital accessibility and the ability to apply accessibility requirements to real‑world content.
  • Experience of content governance, quality assurance and content lifecycle management.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high‑quality work to deadlines.
  • Experience of using data, analytics, feedback or user insight to improve content.
  • A collaborative and inclusive approach, with the confidence to build positive relationships across an organisation.
  • An interest in how digital channels, technology and emerging tools such as AI can improve the way organisations create and manage content.
