Job summary

Ofgem is seeking a Digital Communications Officer for a 24-month fixed-term contract to create, review and publish high-quality website content. You will use content design principles and performance data to make complex information accessible for all users, collaborating with policy, stakeholder engagement, events and strategic communications teams.

Responsibilities

As a Digital Communications Officer on a 24-month fixed-term contract, you will play an important role in ensuring that millions of consumers, businesses and stakeholders can easily access clear, accessible and engaging information about the energy sector and the transition to Net Zero. Working within our Digital Communications team, you will create, review and publish high-quality website content that meets user needs, supports organisational objectives and delivers a positive digital experience. Using content design principles, audience insight and performance data, you will help make complex information easier to understand, ensuring content is findable, usable and accessible for all users.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled digital communicator who is passionate about creating user-centred content and improving online experiences. You will collaborate with colleagues across policy, stakeholder engagement, events and strategic communications teams to deliver effective digital campaigns and content projects from concept through to publication. The role requires strong writing and editing skills, experience of working with content management systems, and a good understanding of content standards, accessibility requirements and style guidelines. You will also use research, analytics and user feedback to continually improve content performance and support wider transformation work across ofgem.gov.uk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, write, edit and publish content to strict deadlines using content management systems.
  • Support the timely delivery of communications campaigns, managing digital content from ideation to launch.
  • Make sure that Ofgem.gov.uk content is user-centred, aligns to business objectives and consistently meets publishing standards.
  • Use analytical skills and work with colleagues to develop and use insight, interpreting research to better understand user needs and improve content based on data and user feedback.
  • Provide content expertise and advice to Ofgem colleagues.
  • Some out of hours working will be required as part of a shared duty rota.

Key Outputs and Deliverables

  • Develop and deliver communications content
  • Support the delivery of content transformation on ofgem.gov.uk using content design principles.
  • Support digital publishing operational activity, ensuring content meets publishing and accessibility guidelines.
  • Build relationships across Ofgem to focus on the needs of the user and influence stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and problem-solve with colleagues, especially in strategic communications, stakeholder management, events, and policy to deliver tangible improvements to ofgem.gov.uk.
  • Contribute to and use style guides and content patterns.

Person specification

Role Criteria

  • Experience of writing and editing content, especially for an online audience, using content design principles. (LEAD CRITERIA)
  • Experience of working in a challenging communications role, with demonstrable previous experience in content management. (LEAD CRITERIA)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work calmly even when faced with fast-paced, high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to interact with stakeholders at a variety of levels and across functions, and to manage client expectations to ensure objectives are met.
  • Experience of using web traffic and behavioural analytics, converting data to insight with the ability to report in various formats.
  • Understanding of social media and other communications channels, integrating content into wider campaigns.
  • Experience of working in government communications, or on GOV.UK, adhering to Government Digital Service (GDS) design principles.
