Job summary

NHS Shetland is recruiting a Dietitian (Band 5) on a substantive full-time basis (36 hours per week). Part-time hours can be considered for the right candidate.

The role offers a salary range of £34,544–£43,039 per annum, plus a Distant Island Allowance of £2,578 and relocation assistance up to £8,000. A designated rotational caseload supports development across clinical areas and opportunities to train others.

Qualifications

  • Current HCPC registration is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work flexibly in a small team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse clinical caseload across adult and paediatric services, diabetes, weight management, acute inpatients, community and domiciliary care.
  • Support training of dietetic students, medical staff and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide patient-centred care and contribute to service development in a rotational caseload.

Join Britain's most northerly NHS Dietetic Service and become part of a newly expanding team. This is a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative and forward-thinking dietitian to join a service undergoing exciting development. As services continue to evolve in line with national standards and local priorities, practice opportunities span:

  • Adult outpatient services
  • Paediatric outpatient services
  • Diabetes
  • Children's and adult weight management
  • Acute inpatients
  • Community and domiciliary care
  • Home Enteral Feeding
  • Frailty and malnutrition
  • Care home nutrition support
  • Mental health nutrition support
  • Rehabilitation and care of older adults

The successful candidate will manage a diverse clinical caseload and work closely with professional colleagues and external stakeholders to deliver efficient, effective, patient-centred care. They will also support the training of dietetic students, medical staff and other healthcare professionals as appropriate. A designated rotational caseload will provide a structured introduction across a range of clinical areas, supporting the development of a broad and well-rounded clinical skill set.

NHS Shetland provides excellent opportunities for professional development, shadowing and peer support, including strong inter-island and NHS Grampian links.

Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills, current HCPC registration, and the ability to work innovatively and flexibly to optimise outcomes within a small workforce.

Newly qualified applicants will be supported to complete the Flying Start programme, with guidance from the dietetic team, the local Practice Education Lead and other newly qualified practitioners from across NHS Shetland.
