Job summary

Aquis Exchange PLC in London is seeking a DevOps Engineer to strengthen its growing fintech infrastructure. You’ll be hands-on from day one in a small team, automating on-prem systems and shaping deployment pipelines.

Qualifications

Job Overview

Aquis Exchange is looking for an ambitious DevOps Engineer who's ready to take the next step in their career. If you've got a solid background in Linux systems administration - or you're early in a DevOps role and want to go deeper - this is a rare chance to work on genuinely interesting infrastructure at a fintech operating at the cutting edge of European equity markets.

You’ll join a small, skilled DevOps team where you’ll be hands‑on from day one. We’re not looking for someone who clocks off at five and forgets about it - we want someone who finds this stuff genuinely interesting. The kind of person who automates things at home just to see if they can, who has opinions about the right way to structure a pipeline, and who gets a quiet satisfaction from a system that just works.

You’ll be working alongside experienced engineers, given real responsibility early, and exposed to a technical environment that most people at this stage of their career don’t get near.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Help build and automate on‑prem infrastructure using Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools (primarily Terraform), with growing focus on container platforms and Kubernetes/OpenShift environments.

• Contribute to automation across containerised and on‑prem environments using Ansible, Python, and supporting tooling.

• Work alongside Development and Infrastructure teams to deliver new technologies and workflows into production, learning container‑native and GitOps patterns along the way.

• Participate in architectural discussions - you’ll be expected to form views and contribute, not just listen.

• Support internal teams with build pipelines, CI/CD systems, and developer tooling.

• Work with Linux systems at scale - deployment, configuration management, and systems operations across containerised and virtualised environments.

• Contribute to capacity planning and help keep container platforms scalable across Dev, QA, Test, and Production.

• Write and maintain clear documentation - we treat docs as part of the job, not an afterthought.

What You Bring

• A solid foundation in Linux systems administration (RedHat/CentOS or similar) - you’re comfortable at the command line, you understand how systems fit together, and you’ve operated them under real conditions, whether professionally or on your own time.

• Scripting and automation instincts - Bash and Python at a minimum; exposure to Ansible or Terraform is a strong plus.

• Familiarity with Git and basic CI/CD concepts; hands‑on experience with GitLab is ideal.

• A working understanding of core networking -TCP/IP, DNS, routing, load balancing, firewalls. You don’t need to be a network engineer, but you should be able to reason through problems.

• Some exposure to containers (Docker at least); Kubernetes or OpenShift experience is a genuine plus but not a requirement.

• Personal or self‑directed projects are just as valid as formal experience - if you’ve built something interesting, we want to hear about it.

• Clear, pragmatic communication - written and verbal.

What You’ll Grow Into

• Deep expertise in Kubernetes and OpenShift across complex on‑prem environments.

• GitOps workflows and container‑native deployment pipelines (ArgoCD, Helm).

• Infrastructure design patterns and configuration management at scale.

• Working knowledge of our broader stack: QuestDB, Elasticsearch, MySQL, and the tooling that surrounds low‑latency trading infrastructure.

• A genuine understanding of financial market infrastructure - a niche that’s technically demanding and commercially interesting.
