Job summary

Aquis Exchange PLC is seeking a capable Network Engineer to support, shape, optimise, and scale our low-latency trading infrastructure in London. You will join a small, expert Network team working across cloud, on-prem, and exchange platforms—contributing to strategic projects and hands-on engineering.

The role requires strong problem-solving, client onboarding experience, and a proactive approach to improving network and security infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in a Network and Security support engineering role, ideally within a financial environment.
• CCNP/ACE-P or equivalent networking experience.
• Experience with telecommunication providers and leased lines.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, Spanning Tree, Routing, Firewalls.
• Experience with OSPF, BGP.
• Firewall cluster management; Fortinet experience advantageous.
• Strong network monitoring and troubleshooting with Wireshark, TCPdump, Syslog, Solarwinds.
• IPsec Site-to-Site and Remote VPN experience.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Experience with network documentation and operational procedures.
• Willingness to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily operational checks of the Network and Security infrastructure, identifying faults.
• Troubleshoot network/security issues using logs, captures to identify root cause.
• Manage client onboarding and access requests.
• Liaise with telecom providers to troubleshoot leased lines and connectivity.
• Support planned network/security changes with validation and checks.
• Monitor capacity plans for network infrastructure.
• Support live exchange platforms during operations.
• Document network and security infrastructure thoroughly.
• Participate in incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Assist internal teams as required.
• Contribute to network/security projects and take increasing responsibility.
• Participate in shift rota 06:30–18:30; occasional weekends/bank holidays.
• Occasional Data Centre visits in London.

Job Overview

Aquis Exchange is seeking a capable Network Engineer to support, shape, optimise, and scale our infrastructure. You’ll join a small, expert Network team working across a low-latency trading network, cloud environments and on-premises systems—contributing to both strategic projects and hands‑on engineering.

We are looking for someone who brings strong network problem‑solving skills, will handle client on‑boarding and can work in a fast‑paced financial environment. The ideal candidate will also refine processes, and deliver reliable, high‑quality solutions that contribute to the continual improvement of the network and security infrastructure.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Perform daily operational checks of the Network and Security infrastructure, identifying and investigating faults or anomalies
• Troubleshoot Network and Security infrastructure issues, using logs, monitoring tools, packet captures to identify the root cause
• Manage client onboarding, client access requests and decommissioning requirements
• Liaise with telecommunication and network service providers to troubleshoot leased lines, circuits and connectivity issues
• Support and implement planned network and security changes, including validation and post-change checks
• Monitor and propose capacity plans for the Network and Security infrastructure
• Monitor and support live exchange platforms during operational hours
• Create and maintain high-quality documentation of the Network and Security infrastructure
• Participate in incident investigation and root‑cause analysis, escalating issues where appropriate
• Support internal teams requirements when requested
• Contribute to the delivery of network and security projects, with the opportunity to take increasing responsibility for project‑based work as experience develops.
• Participate in a shift rota from 06:30 – 18:30.Occasional weekend and Bank Holiday work may be required
• Occasional West and East London Data Centre visits may be required

Skills and Experience

Essential

• 4 years or more in a Network and Security support engineering role ideally within a financial environment
• CCNP/ACE-P or equivalent networking experience
• Experience working with telecommunication providers and leased lines
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, Spanning Tree, Routing, Firewalls
• Support and configuration experience of RSTP
• Proven hands‑on experience of OSPF, BGP
• Support and configuration of a firewall cluster and a centralised firewall manager.Experience with Fortinet would be advantageous.
• Strong Network Monitoring and troubleshooting experience with the following tools:
• Wireshark - packet capture and analysis
• TCPdump - packet capture and analysis
• Syslog analysis
• Solarwinds or equivalent network monitoring platforms
• Firewall logging traffic analysis
• Ability to investigate network issues methodically, correlate information from monitoring, logs and packet captures and identify probable root cause
• IPSEC Site‑to‑Site and Remote VPN configuration and troubleshooting experience
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical issues in a clear, detailed and pragmatic manner.
• Experience working with network documentation, including network diagrams and operational procedures
• A willingness to learn new technologies

Desired

• Understanding of PTP
• Knowledge and experience of Multicast, PIM and RPs
• Knowledge and experience of AWS networking Cloud environment
• Experience working with Arista EOS and/or Fortinet technologies would be advantageous
• Network Automation scripting knowledge such as Ansible and Python
