Job summary

Butler Rose Ltd. in Exeter is seeking a Development Manufacturing Engineer to move new products from concept to production, ensuring designs are robust, manufacturable, cost-effective and capable of meeting quality requirements.

You will collaborate with Design Engineers, Production Engineering and Quality, leading prototype builds, DFMEA activities and continuous improvement across product ranges in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of DFMA principles
  • Ability to read and produce engineering drawings/specifications
  • Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes and tolerances
  • Experience using 3D CAD software and producing 2D drawings
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Ensure new product designs are suitable for manufacture and assembly
  • Identify manufacturing, tooling, material and assembly challenges during development
  • Influence design decisions to improve manufacturability and cost
  • Lead prototype builds and provide technical feedback
  • Support Design for Manufacture (DFM) activities and DFMEA reviews
  • Lead engineering projects focused on quality improvements and cost reduction
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product launches
  • Drive continuous improvement across processes and products

Development Manufacturing Engineer

Exeter £40,000 + Excellent Benefits

Are you a Manufacturing Engineer with a passion for product development and Design for Manufacture? We're recruiting for an exciting opportunity to join a leading manufacturing business in Exeter, playing a key role within its Research & Development team.

This position offers the chance to work on the development of new products from concept through to production, ensuring designs are robust, manufacturable, cost-effective and capable of meeting quality and performance requirements.

The Role

Working closely with Design Engineers, Production Engineering, Quality and other key stakeholders, you will support the development of innovative products while driving continuous improvement initiatives across existing product ranges.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring new product designs are suitable for manufacture and assembly
  • Identifying manufacturing, tooling, material and assembly challenges during development
  • Influencing design decisions to improve manufacturability, repeatability and cost-effectiveness
  • Leading prototype builds and providing technical feedback to stakeholders
  • Supporting design reviews and Design for Manufacture (DFM) activities
  • Leading engineering projects focused on quality improvements, optimisation and cost reduction
  • Supporting DFMEA reviews and risk assessments
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product launches
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes and products
About You

Applicants should ideally have:

  • Experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture principles
  • Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes, materials and tolerances
  • Experience using 3D CAD software and producing 2D technical drawings
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
