Development and Calibration Engineer, Shrewsbury

This position is based in Alzenau, near Frankfurt/M., Germany, at Hyundai Motorsport GmbH, responsible for Hyundai's global motorsport activities.

Job Overview

We are seeking a creative Development and Calibration Engineer to join our Testing and Simulation Team. The role involves powertrain system thermo-fluids modelling and performance analysis to develop a competitive product.

Responsibilities
  1. Calibrating powertrain systems at the test bench and potentially at race tracks.
  2. Defining and overseeing test procedures for new powertrain components, software, or hardware.
  3. Optimizing engine calibration and strategies for performance and reliability.
  4. Innovating solutions to engineering challenges to benefit our products.
  5. Evaluating concepts and conducting analysis independently within a team setting.
  6. Collaborating closely with product development teams.
  7. Creating and validating innovative engineering models.
  8. Working with skilled engineers to solve complex problems.
  9. Enhancing engineering skills through challenging projects.
Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD in a relevant engineering field, including ICE.
  • At least 5 years of experience in high-performance or motorsport powertrain development.
  • Experience with hybrid powertrains is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art TC-DI engine development, especially in test bench calibration.
  • Experience with modern automated test equipment.
  • Proficiency in programming or scripting languages.
  • Strong manual dexterity and practical skills.
  • Formula SAE experience is highly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of ICE/powertrain testing and metrology.
  • Solid grasp of internal combustion engine and powertrain fundamentals.
  • Experience with test bench automation, combustion analysis, CAN bus architecture.
  • Skill in using data post-processing tools like Wintax, ATLAS.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of German is a plus or willingness to learn.
