Scottish Canals is seeking Destination Associates for Holiday Boat Handover/Turnaround at The Falkirk Wheel. Casual contracts with flexible hours,Spring to Autumn 2026 season. Training provided and uniform supplied to support welcoming customers and delivering 5-star experiences.

Role involves maintaining boats, moving them on turnaround days, and delivering friendly, professional service while following safety regulations. Weekend/bank holiday work may be required.

Responsibilities

• Support the Holiday Boat Operations Manager to maintain hire boats and inventory.
• Assist with maintenance checks between trips.
• Carry out refuelling of boats.
• Ensure pump out and water tanks refill are carried out.
• Maintain external appearance of boats to a high standard.
• Drive the boats and understand the engine basics.
• Be part of the out-of-hours on-call team if applicable.
• Ensure boats are prepared to a high standard for customers.
• Maintain boat interiors and provide friendly service.
• Manage boat movement on turnaround days.
• Deliver 5-star customer service and ensure excellent customer care.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory regulations pertaining to boat hire.

Scottish Canals is looking for Destination Associates - Holiday Boat Handover/Turnaround to join our friendly team at The Falkirk Wheel!

We are looking for passionate, enthusiastic, and motivated individuals to join our team and work with us over our Spring to Autumn 2026 season.

If you’re interested in boats, engines and outdoor activities, then this could be the perfect opportunity for you. We have casual contracts available with a degree of flexibility around working patterns and hours.

Our pace, personality and people make us amongst Scotland’s top visitor attractions. From welcoming thousands of international visitors, serving customers and helping to create 5-star memorable experiences. Our Handover/Turnaround Assistants enjoy a wide range of fun and exciting responsibilities.

Full uniform and training will be provided.

Key Duties Include:

• Support the Holiday Boat Operations Manager to maintain and keep all hire boats, equipment and inventory in a satisfactory condition. This will include –
• assisting with maintenance checks required between trips.
• carry out re-fuelling of boats.
• ensure pump out and re-filling of water tanks has been carried out efficiently.
• ensure that the external appearance of all boats is at an acceptable standard.
• become familiar with the workings of a canal boat.
• drive the boats.
• gain knowledge of the canal boat engine and other areas where maintenance is required. If applicable could be part of the out of hours on call team.

• Support the Holiday Boat Manager to ensure that all hire boats are prepared to the high standard expected by customers.
• Support the Holiday Boat Operation Manager to ensure all boat interiors are maintained effectively.
• Support the Holiday Boat Operations Manager in the turnaround process ensuring customers get an efficient and friendly service.
• Work with the Holiday Boat Operations Manager to manage boat movement on turnaround days.
• Ensure 5-star quality service and friendly approach is given to customers.
• Help develop and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and ensure that the Holiday Boats gives excellent customer care.
• Be responsible, with other members of the team, for complying with all statutory regulations pertaining to operating a boat hire holiday company.

Previous experience in a similar role is welcomed, but not essential.

This role attracts a salary of £12.60 changing to £13.45 from April 2026 per hour. You will work on a rota which may include weekends and bank holidays.
