Job summary

Hunter Douglas Retail UK Limited is seeking a Despatch Operative for our Glaisdale site. You will be responsible for sorting goods by date, preparing items for dispatch, and assisting with loading and unloading inter-site vehicles.

This is a hands-on role, requiring accuracy, physical stamina, and teamwork. You will work in a fast-paced environment, maintain high standards of quality and safety, and use basic IT systems to support despatch processes.

About the Role

As a Despatch Operative, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the efficient and accurate movement of products across our operation. You will be responsible for the sortation of goods by date, preparing items for onward distribution, and supporting the loading and unloading of inter-site vehicles. This is a physically active role, ideal for someone who enjoys being on their feet and takes pride in maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

• Sort and organise products accurately by date to ensure correct stock rotation
• Safely load and unload vehicles, handling all products with care to prevent damage
• Prepare goods for dispatch, ensuring accuracy and efficiency at all times
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
• Work collaboratively with team members and other departments to meet daily targets
• Carry out basic stock checks and ensure product integrity is maintained
• Use basic IT systems to support despatch processes
• Take ownership of tasks, identifying and escalating issues where required

About You

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience in a warehouse, despatch, or similar environment (desirable, but not essential)
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately under pressure
• Basic numeracy and literacy skills
• Good communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and team leaders
• Basic IT knowledge
• The ability to work on your own initiative and manage your workload effectively
• A strong sense of accountability, taking ownership of your tasks and learning from mistakes
• A positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to contribute to team success
