Job summary

A secondary school in Hampshire is seeking a dedicated Design Technology Technician for a part-time role starting in September 2025. The technician will support practical lessons, maintain workshop safety, and enhance the quality of teaching in the DT department. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic about Design Technology, skilled in using relevant tools and equipment, and knowledgeable about workshop safety standards. This role is not eligible for sponsorship and requires the right to work in the UK.

Design Technology Technician – Part-Time – September 2025 Start

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a Hampshire-based secondary school to appoint a dedicated and practicalDesign Technology Technicianfor aSeptember 2025start. This is apart-timerole working2 days per weekduringterm time only. Working hours are8.00am – 4.00pmon agreed days.

About the Role:

In this varied and rewarding position, you will work closely with the Curriculum Leader of Vocational Learning and teaching staff to support practical lessons and maintain a safe, well-equipped workshop. From preparing materials to maintaining machinery and supporting CAD/CAM systems, your input will directly enhance the quality of teaching and learning across the DT department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and setting up materials and equipment for practical DT lessons
  • Maintaining stock, tools and machinery to ensure a safe and efficient learning environment
  • Ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations
  • Supporting staff and students during lessons, including assistance with CAD/CAM equipment
  • Performing routine safety checks, tidying workshops and managing reprographics/ICT admin
  • Keeping accurate records of orders, repairs and budgets
  • Taking a proactive role in creating a stimulating, safe and productive workshop environment

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a technician who is:

  • Enthusiastic about Design Technology and supporting young people’s learning
  • Skilled in using tools, equipment and materials used in DT (woodwork, metalwork, plastics, CAD/CAM etc.)
  • Knowledgeable about workshop safety, COSHH and H&S standards
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a wider team
  • Highly organised with good communication skills and a proactive attitude
  • Previous experience in a school workshop is desirable but not essential
