Job summary

Philosophy Education is seeking a passionate Design Technology Teacher to join a well-established secondary school in Maidstone, Kent, on a part-time basis (0.4). The role covers KS3/KS4 with KS5 where appropriate and offers MPS/UPS paid to scale.

The ideal candidate will hold QTS or UK-recognised teaching qualification, have a Design Technology or Engineering degree, and be able to deliver engaging lessons, assess progress, and maintain high standards of behaviour.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging DT and Engineering lessons across KS3/KS4 (KS5 where appropriate).
  • Deliver well-organised lessons accommodating pupils of varying abilities.
  • Use practical and classroom-based teaching strategies; assess and provide feedback.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and progress.
  • Collaborate with the DT department and communicate with parents and staff.

Are you a passionate Design Technology Teacher looking for a part-time teaching opportunity in Maidstone?

A well-established and supportive secondary school in Maidstone, Kent is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Teacher of Design Technology to join its DT department on a part-time basis, working 2 days per week (0.4).

The school is looking for a committed and motivated teacher who is passionate about Design Technology and Engineering and can inspire pupils through engaging, practical and well-planned lessons.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher looking for a better work-life balance, as well as an Early Career Teacher (ECT) looking to develop their experience within a supportive department.

The Role

As a Teacher of Design Technology, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Design Technology and Engineering lessons across KS3 and KS4, with opportunities to teach KS5 where appropriate.
  • Deliver challenging and well-organised lessons that support pupils of different abilities.
  • Use a range of practical and classroom-based teaching strategies and resources.
  • Assess pupil progress and provide constructive feedback to support achievement.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement and academic progress.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Design Technology department.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers and colleagues regarding pupil progress.
  • Contribute positively to the wider life of the department and school.
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an appropriate UK-recognised teaching qualification.
  • Has a relevant degree in Design Technology, Engineering or a related subject.
  • Has experience teaching Design Technology and/or Engineering within a secondary school setting.
  • Has experience teaching to GCSE / Level 2, or has completed relevant teacher training placements.
  • Has strong subject knowledge and an understanding of the current DT curriculum.
  • Can plan engaging lessons that meet the needs of pupils across a range of abilities.
  • Has confident classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Is enthusiastic, ambitious and keen to work as part of a collaborative department.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Experience teaching KS5 Design Technology or Engineering would be advantageous but is not essential.
