Job summary

Philosophy Education in Maidstone, Kent, is seeking a part-time Design Technology Teacher for 0.4 (2 days per week). The role covers KS3 and KS4, with KS5 where appropriate, and starts immediately or Sep 2026.

The ideal candidate will hold QTS or UK teaching qualification, have a degree in Design Technology or Engineering, and experience teaching DT in a secondary setting. The school offers a supportive department and paid to scale.

Qualifications

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an appropriate UK-recognised teaching qualification.
  • Has a relevant degree in Design Technology, Engineering or a related subject.
  • Experience teaching Design Technology and/or Engineering within a secondary school setting.
  • Experience teaching GCSE / Level 2, or relevant teacher training placements.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Design Technology and Engineering lessons across KS3 and KS4, with opportunities to teach KS5 where appropriate.
  • Deliver challenging and well-organised lessons that support pupils of different abilities.
  • Use a range of practical and classroom-based teaching strategies and resources.
  • Assess pupil progress and provide constructive feedback to support achievement.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement and academic progress.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Design Technology department.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers and colleagues regarding pupil progress.
  • Contribute positively to the wider life of the department and school.
