Job summary

OCU is seeking an experienced Design Project Manager to lead design delivery on large multidisciplinary power and renewable energy projects across the UK. You will work with Design, Engineering, Construction and Pre-Construction teams to ensure safe, efficient delivery to high standards.

The role requires a degree in engineering, a strong track record in design engineering and design management, and the ability to chair meetings, manage stakeholders, and drive innovation.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (BEng or MEng).
• Significant experience in both Design Engineering and Design Management in Power Transmission & Distribution.
• Proven Project Engineer or Design Manager on multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of CDM 2015 roles and responsibilities.
• Excellent stakeholder management and leadership abilities.
• Willingness to travel and hold a Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Managing design deliverables and activities across large multidisciplinary power and renewable energy projects.
• Developing and maintaining design programmes and work breakdown structures across project lifecycles.
• Ensuring compliance with client design management, employer requirements, and industry standards.
• Primary point of contact for design-related matters between clients, subcontractors, and project teams.
• Forecasting and coordinating design, surveying, and digital engineering resources.
• Championing Safety by Design, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
• Managing design-related project controls: TQs, EWNs, CEs, and RFIs.
• Supporting tender submissions, design scopes, execution plans, and management plans in pre-construction.
• Coordinating temporary works and construction design with PMs, engineers, and site teams.
• Leading design review meetings, workshops, and coordination sessions.
• Supporting development of internal design capabilities and governance.
• Mentoring Graduate, Assistant, and Senior Engineers.
