Design & Production Engineer: CAD to Production Launch

Job summary

Workforce Staffing collaborates with a leading engineering and manufacturing business to recruit a Design & Production Engineer for the Daventry team. The role spans the full product lifecycle from concept and CAD design through prototype development, production launch and continual improvement.

The successful candidate will blend design engineering with hands-on manufacturing, driving efficiency, quality and cost improvements across NPI, DFMEA/PFMEA and production readiness.

Qualifications

• Experience in engineering design or manufacturing environments.
• Strong CATIA V5 knowledge for 3D modelling and 2D drawings.
• Good understanding of GD&T and engineering tolerances.
• Familiarity with NPI, prototype development or production engineering.
• Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, APQP and Control Plans.
• Automotive OEM or Tier 1 experience is advantageous.
• HND or Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Production Engineering desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using CATIA V5.
• Support concept development, design feasibility and DFM.
• Collaborate with production, quality, suppliers and other engineering teams.
• Develop designs for prototype and production manufacture.
• Design and support tooling, jigs and fixtures.
• Coordinate prototype builds and transition to production.
• Review first-off parts and measurement data, implementing improvements.
• Support DFMEA and PFMEA activities.
• Develop process flows, Control Plans and SOPs.
• Support capacity studies, Run‑at‑Rate trials and production readiness.
• Apply GD&T, datum structures and tolerance stack‑ups to designs.
• Resolve design/manufacturing issues during production launch.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and manufacturing costs.
• Support NPI projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
