Job summary

Amentum in the UK is recruiting a Design Manager to lead the production and delivery of engineering deliverables for the SZC SSW replication. You will work under the SZC SSW Team Lead to shape technical outputs in a safely managed, quality-driven environment.

The role requires an engineering degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, extensive experience in structural steelwork design to Eurocodes, and a proven track record in self-delivery and complex projects.

Qualifications

• Requires strong self-delivery capability in complex projects.
• Experience presenting to wide stakeholder groups; translating technical topics for non-technical audiences.
• Knowledge of CDM 2015 and safe design practices.

Responsibilities

• Enact the operational and strategic vision for SZC SSW replication.
• Self-delivery of deliverables to quality, time, and cost targets.
• Accurate scheduling and highlighting risks to deliverables.
• Identify opportunities/gaps in SZC replication processes for the SSW scope.
• Flag commercial/strategic importance areas using technical knowledge.
• Identify interfaces with other disciplines and stakeholders; communicate accordingly.
• Ensure training needs are identified and met; maintain competency records.

Amentum are currently recruiting a Design Manager who is required to carry out direct work on the production and management of deliverables within the scope of the EPR-E SZC SSW team.

Key Responsibilities

• Enactment of the operational and strategic vision needed for successful delivery of the SZC SSW replication under the direction of the SZC SSW Team Lead
• A ‘hands-on’ self-delivery role in the production and issuing of the various deliverables within their scope to dictated requirements of quality, time and cost
• The accurate scheduling and programming of deliverables, and in highlighting key risks to the same
• Applying their knowledge of the developing SZC replication processes that apply to the SSW scope in the identification of opportunities/gaps that require further development
• Using their existing technical knowledge and operational experience to identify and flag up areas of commercial and strategic importance
• Identifying key interfaces with other disciplines and the wider project stakeholder network, and the nature of such interfaces
• Presenting and communicating complex topics to the wider stakeholder network.
• Ensuring that any training needs are adequately identified and met, that they are competent for the role, and that their personal competency assessment is kept up to date and valid

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• An engineering degree in a relevant subject i.e. Civil or Structural Engineering. Related disciplines such as Mechanical Engineering may be considered subject to proof of relevant design experience
• Experience in the design of structural steelwork buildings to relevant national standards (ideally Eurocodes)
• Proven experience in a complex self-delivery environment
• The ability to make independent decisions which are supported by a sound and reasonable situational analysis
• Demonstrable experience in both operational planning, and in working to achieve the success of such plans i.e. a track record of success in operational delivery of suitable outcomes
• Confidence when presenting to an experienced and wide-ranging stakeholder group, and in communicating key topics and their operational impact with respect to the perspectives of these stakeholders
• A working knowledge of the requirements of CDM 2015
