Job description

As the Design Manager, your role involves reviewing, commenting, approving, and overseeing all documents related to new projects at Ipsum. Essential experience includes ICP/DNO Design at 33/66/132kV, with desirable experience in BESS/PV/Renewable technology.

Your Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure all work complies with IpsumPower Ltd standards, policies, and procedures.
  2. Bring proven track record in BESS renewable sector experience.
  3. Possess ICP experience >33kV with a strong record in the sector.
  4. Manage multiple or major projects from a design perspective, safely, competently, and within budget.
  5. Review, approve, and issue subcontractor designs for client/DNO approval.
  6. Maintain control over subcontract design teams, ensuring schedules and design quality meet requirements.
  7. Lead and manage the in-house design team.
  8. Review primary and protection electrical designs (Essential).
  9. Review civil designs (Desirable).
  10. Review Power System Studies (Desirable).
  11. Identify and communicate commercial opportunities to senior management.
  12. Create front-end programmes (MSP) using project management tools (Desirable).
  13. Utilize AutoCAD knowledge (Desirable).
  14. Report weekly on project design progress to senior management.

Planning and Organisation:

  1. Review project designs upon completion with your line manager to assess programme and budget adherence.
  2. Assist sales and tendering teams as needed outside normal circumstances.
  3. Collaborate with project managers to ensure design understanding and implementation.
  4. Coordinate with line managers to manage critical project dates.
  5. Produce comprehensive job pack handovers and attend handover meetings with project managers.

People Management:

  1. Work with major project teams to ensure safe, effective operations.
  2. Participate in handover meetings with project managers.
  3. Share expertise, advise, and contribute to the team’s knowledge base.
  4. Coordinate with colleagues across Ipsum Power to complete tasks effectively.
  5. Lead and manage the in-house design team.

Customer Relations:

  1. Represent Ipsum Power Ltd at customer and external meetings as required.
  2. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and external parties.
  3. Ensure subcontractor designers adhere to programmes and budgets.

Quality Assurance:

  1. Implement Ipsum Power’s quality standards in all tasks.
  2. Identify and implement improvements in processes and operations.
  3. Ensure compliance with working practices and processes.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  1. Complete designs according to schedule to meet deadlines.
  2. Provide design support to other departments as needed.

Candidate Profile:

Qualifications & Memberships:

  • Demonstrable design skills at the specified voltage levels.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant post-qualification experience.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience in a multi-divisional, commercial organization.
  • Deep understanding of current HV electrical designs.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of statutory requirements, legislation, and technical advances.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety practices and risk assessments.
