As the Design Manager, your role involves reviewing, commenting, approving, and overseeing all documentation related to new projects you work on. Essential experience includes ICP/DNO Design at 33/66/132kV, with desirable experience in BESS, PV, and renewable technologies.

Your Responsibilities

  1. Ensure all work complies with Ipsum Power Ltd and client standards, policies, and procedures.
  2. Possess renewable sector experience, particularly in BESS, with a proven track record.
  3. Have ICP experience >33kV, with proven sector success.
  4. Manage multiple or major projects from design perspective, ensuring safety, competence, and timeliness within budget.
  5. Review subcontractor designs, approve, and distribute for client/DNO approval.
  6. Ensure designs meet current legislation, including DNO G81, HASAWA, NRSWA, C.O.S.H.H., etc.
  7. Maintain control over subcontract designers, ensuring adherence to schedules and design correctness for client/DNO reviews.
  8. Lead and manage the in-house design team.
  9. Able to review primary and protection electrical designs (Essential).
  10. Review civil designs (Desirable).
  11. Review Power System Studies (Desirable).
  12. Identify and communicate commercial opportunities to company directors and senior managers.
  13. Create front-end programmes using MSP and project management tools (Desirable).
  14. Knowledge of AutoCAD is advantageous.
  15. Report weekly on project design progress to senior management.

Planning and Organisation

  1. Review project designs with line manager to assess programme and budget compliance.
  2. Support sales and tendering teams as needed outside normal circumstances.
  3. Collaborate with project managers to ensure understanding and implementation of designs.
  4. Manage critical dates through regular liaison with line manager.
  5. Produce comprehensive job handovers and participate in handover meetings with project managers.

People Management

  1. Work with major projects teams to ensure safe and effective operations.
  2. Participate in project handover meetings.
  3. Share expertise and contribute to team knowledge.
  4. Coordinate with colleagues across the organisation for task completion.
  5. Lead and manage the in-house design team.

Customer Relations

  1. Represent Ipsum Power Ltd at customer and external meetings when required.
  2. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and external parties.
  3. Ensure subcontractor designers adhere to programmes and budgets.

Quality Assurance

  1. Implement company quality standards in all tasks.
  2. Identify and promote process and operational improvements.
  3. Follow established working practices and procedures.

Key Performance Indicators

  1. Complete designs according to schedules to meet deadlines.
  2. Provide design support to other departments as needed.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications & Memberships

  • Proven design skills at specified voltage levels.
  • At least 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience in a multi-divisional, commercial organization.
  • Deep understanding of current HV electrical designs.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of legislation, standards, and technological advances.
  • Strong health and safety and risk assessment knowledge.
