This opportunity offers influence over both individual projects and the way the business approaches design. You’ll help assess development opportunities, steer external design teams and ensure that proposed buildings work in practice for construction teams, customers and the people who will operate them.

The role

Your focus will be architectural leadership, design assurance and practical problem-solving. You’ll use your experience to question proposals, identify risks and help project teams make informed decisions.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing whether proposed sites and building concepts can meet development and operational requirements.

  • Guiding appointed architects and consultants, reviewing their proposals and resolving design issues.

  • Bringing architectural, engineering and construction requirements together.

  • Supporting planning and approval processes alongside local advisers.

  • Helping teams balance design quality with budget, delivery timescales and buildability.

  • Providing architectural advice as projects move through construction and completion.

  • Improving design guidance, documentation and processes as the development programme grows.

Requirements

  • At least five years of practical data centre project experience.

  • The ability to assess architectural proposals critically and give clear, well-reasoned advice.

  • Experience spanning early design and later project delivery.

  • A good understanding of planning, building compliance and multidisciplinary coordination.

  • Confidence working with consultants, contractors and senior stakeholders.

  • Commercial awareness and the ability to turn technical issues into workable solutions.

  • Professional English and flexibility to travel for project needs.

  • Working within a developer, operator or end-user organisation.

  • Professional architectural registration or accreditation.

  • Establishing design guidance or improving processes within a growing team.

  • Standardised building solutions, digital design coordination or sustainable design.
