About the Company

Our client is a leading UK commercial fit-out and design & build specialist with an outstanding reputation for delivering workplace projects for a prestigious portfolio of occupier and developer clients.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured projects, they are looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to join their London team.

The Role

As Design Manager, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of commercial fit-out and refurbishment projects, leading the technical design process from pre-construction through to completion.

Working closely with clients, consultants, pre-construction teams, commercial teams, and construction delivery teams, you will ensure that designs are coordinated, compliant, buildable, and delivered in line with programme and budget requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Design Manager looking to join a highly respected design & build contractor delivering high-profile workplace projects across London.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design delivery of commercial fit-out and refurbishment projects.
• Manage the coordination of architectural, structural, M&E, public health and specialist subcontractor design packages.
• Translate design concepts into practical, technically robust and buildable solutions.
• Review and manage technical drawing packages throughout all project stages.
• Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, CDM 2015, Building Safety Act and industry best practice.
• Lead design coordination workshops, technical reviews and project design meetings.
• Identify and mitigate design risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support site teams with technical information, RFIs, design changes and construction queries.
• Manage BIM coordination, clash detection and model reviews.
• Maintain technical quality standards and document control procedures.
• Assist with principal designer responsibilities and compliance obligations where required.
• Mentor and support junior team members across the design function.

Requirements

• Degree qualified in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Architectural Technology or a related discipline.
• Proven experience as a Design Manager within commercial fit-out, refurbishment or design & build environments.
• Strong understanding of technical detailing, construction methodologies and project delivery.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
• Excellent knowledge of Building Regulations, CDM 2015 and the Building Safety Act.
• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD and BIM coordination tools.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Experience

• Commercial office fit-out and workplace projects.
• Experience using Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) or other Common Data Environments (CDE).
• Knowledge of WELL, BREEAM or LEED standards.
• Principal Designer experience.
• Strong understanding of the Golden Thread requirements and Building Safety legislation.
