Job summary

Wallace Hind Selection Ltd is partnering with an established British manufacturer of packaging machinery to recruit an experienced Mechanical Engineering Design Manager or Senior Design Engineer seeking a move into leadership. You will lead the drawing office and manage a small team while continuing hands-on design work.

The role is office-based in Bedford with commutable options to Milton Keynes, Northampton, Cambridge and surrounding towns.

Qualifications

• Experienced Mechanical Engineering Design Manager or Drawing Office Manager seeking a leadership role.
• Experience with special purpose machinery and packaging machinery preferred.
• Qualified Mechanical Engineer to at least HNC level.
• Proficient in SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 5 Mechanical Design Engineers.
• Spend 50% of time on management and 50% on hands-on design.
• Meet delivery times and KPIs for new machines, upgrades, and spares.
• Create drawings, BOMs and spare parts lists; liaise with Electrical, Software/Controls and Manufacturing teams.

BASIC SALARY: up to £65,000

JOB DESCRIPTION

Mechanical Engineering Design Manager, Mechanical Design Engineer, Drawing Office Manager - packaging machinery, turnkey capital equipment, industrial equipment

As our Design Manager, you will be managing the companies Mechanical Design Engineering function (Drawing Office) and a team of 5 Mechanical Design Engineers. You will spend 50% of your time managing and leading the team, and 50% as a hands on Design Engineer.

You will be expected to achieve agreed delivery times & KPI`s on new machines, upgrades & spare parts, to create drawings, BOM`s & spares lists and will be expected to liaise effectively with the Electrical Design, Software & Controls and manufacturing teams.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

• You WILL be an experienced Mechanical Engineering Design Manager (or Drawing Office Manager) or will be a very experienced Design Engineer looking to move into a management role.
• You WILL have specific experience of special purpose machinery and ideally of packaging machinery.
• You WILL be a qualified Mechanical Engineer to a minimum of HNC level.
• You WILL have experience of using SolidWorks &/or AutoCAD software.
