Job summary

Wallace Hind Selection LTD in Bedford is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Design Manager or a senior Design Engineer moving into management to lead the Drawing Office.

You will manage a team of 5 engineers, spend half on management and half hands-on design, delivering drawings, BOMs, spares lists and coordinating with Electrical, Software & Controls and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

• You WILL be an experienced Mechanical Engineering Design Manager (or Drawing Office Manager) or a very experienced Design Engineer moving into management.
• Experience with special purpose machinery and ideally packaging machinery is preferred.
• Qualified Mechanical Engineer to at least HNC level and proficiency with SolidWorks &/or AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Mechanical Design Engineering function (Drawing Office) and a team of 5 engineers.
• Balance 50% management/leadership with 50% hands-on design work.
• Deliver drawings, BOMs, spares lists and ensure delivery KPIs and timelines; liaise with Electrical, Software & Controls and manufacturing teams.

BASIC SALARY: up to £65,000

JOB DESCRIPTION

Mechanical Engineering Design Manager, Mechanical Design Engineer, Drawing Office Manager - packaging machinery, turnkey capital equipment, industrial equipment

As our Design Manager, you will be managing the companies Mechanical Design Engineering function (Drawing Office) and a team of 5 Mechanical Design Engineers. You will spend 50% of your time managing and leading the team, and 50% as a hands on Design Engineer.

You will be expected to achieve agreed delivery times & KPI`s on new machines, upgrades & spare parts, to create drawings, BOM`s & spares lists and will be expected to liaise effectively with the Electrical Design, Software & Controls and manufacturing teams.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

• You WILL be an experienced Mechanical Engineering Design Manager (or Drawing Office Manager) or will be a very experienced Design Engineer looking to move into a management role.
• You WILL have specific experience of special purpose machinery and ideally of packaging machinery.
• You WILL be a qualified Mechanical Engineer to a minimum of HNC level.
• You WILL have experience of using SolidWorks &/or AutoCAD software.
