Job summary

Wates Smartspace in London and Warrington is seeking a Design Management Trainee to learn how to coordinate the design process across construction projects. You will work with architects, engineers, consultants and project teams to deliver design information that is safe, buildable and meets client requirements.

During the programme you’ll gain exposure to the full project lifecycle from concept and tender through to construction and completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (2:2 or higher) by Sep 2027.
• Degree subject relevant to the role.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Support the coordination and management of design activities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Work with architects, engineers, consultants and subcontractors to ensure design information is delivered accurately and on time.
• Assist in reviewing drawings, specifications and technical information to ensure designs are complete, coordinated and suitable for construction.
• Help identify potential design risks, clashes and buildability issues, supporting the team in developing effective solutions.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, designers, subcontractors, suppliers and internal project teams.
• Support the monitoring of design programmes and key deliverables to help ensure project milestones are achieved.
• Assist in preparing design reports, meeting minutes and project updates for internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop an understanding of contractual design responsibilities and how they impact project delivery.
• Collaborate with commercial, pre-construction and operational teams to ensure design decisions support project objectives, programme requirements and budget expectations.
• Gather information, undertake research and engage with industry professionals to continuously develop your technical and design management knowledge.
• Gain the relevant technical and behavioural knowledge for your role, through the completion of a technical manual, behavioural workshops, short-term placements and relevant qualifications.
