Job Description:

We have a new opportunity to be part of our Aerodynamics team in the role of Design Engineer – Aerodynamics Model Design.

As a Design Engineer focused on aerodynamic model design, you will play a key role in supporting and enhancing our wind tunnel testing capabilities. You’ll help shape the development of our model philosophy and contribute directly to aerodynamic performance through the design and delivery of high-quality components and systems. Working at the forefront of Formula One innovation, you will have the opportunity to impact our goal of consistently competing at the front of the grid.

You will be responsible for:

  • Owning the full lifecycle of aerodynamic model design projects, from initial concept through to final delivery.
  • Collaborating closely with aerodynamicists, designers, and engineers to develop efficient, high-performance wind tunnel (WT) test models.
  • Creating parametric and surface CAD models for use in CFD and WT testing.
  • Ensuring the design of aerodynamic models aligns with performance, legality, and design intent.
  • Supporting the evolution of model philosophy, focusing on quality, repeatability, and changeover efficiency.
  • Participating in WT tests, supporting model part preparation and addressing issues to uphold design integrity.
  • Driving model development strategies in line with aerodynamic and regulatory requirements.

What you will need to be successful in this role:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong CAD capability, ideally with CATIA, and experience in mechanical and surface modelling.
  • Solid understanding of composite design, advanced materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, finite element analysis (FEA), and metrology practices.
  • Experience in F1 aerodynamic development or a similar high-performance environment.
  • Familiarity with FIA technical regulations and wind tunnel testing methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills, collaborative mindset, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and provide support outside normal hours as needed.
  • Understanding of race car packaging constraints and their relationship to aerodynamic development.
  • Passion for innovation and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

This is a full-time office-based role based at our campus in Silverstone, with additional requirement to travel to other locations where necessary.

Embark on a journey with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team to reshape history at our cutting-edge, sustainable campus in Northamptonshire.
