Job Title: Design Engineer

Company Background

Strimech Engineering Limited is a company that designs, manufactures, and distributes materials handling attachments for the agricultural, construction, industrial, waste, and recycling sectors. The company’s products are sold through three sales channels: direct to end users, via authorized dealers, and as part of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) supply chain. Founded in 1977, the company is based in Walsall, West Midlands, and employs approximately 40 staff. The company has four functional departments: Finance and Human Resources, Production, Sales and Marketing, and Design and Technical.

Overall Statement of Job Purpose

An established business in the design and manufacture of material handling attachments is seeking to strengthen its design and engineering department with an experienced design engineer. This role offers the opportunity to join the company at an exciting time, developing new and existing products into manufacture and influencing departmental development.

Skills, Experience, And Qualifications (SEQ) Set

Essential skills:

• Capable IT skills.
• Strong 3D Solid Modelling CAD skills (ideally Autodesk Inventor and Vault), FEA stress analysis, and experience with associated PDM systems.
• Experience in designing material handling attachments; experience in designing attachments for telehandlers and wheeled loaders is highly advantageous.
• Experience in mechanical design, steel fabrication, machined parts, and hydraulics.

Desirable skills:

• Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
• Excellent communication skills with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
• Confidence to propose ideas and provide technical and innovative solutions.
• Robust problem-solving skills.
• Good organizational skills.

Desirable experience:

• Experience in the agricultural, construction, and/or industrial materials handling industry.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (ideally a degree).
• A-level or equivalent in Mathematics and/or Science.

Specific Accountabilities

• Maintain the drawing database.
• Work with production on Factorymaster (monitor part numbers, DXFs, and process ENCs).
• Ensure all work complies with quality and specification requirements, with timely documentation.
• Maintain a clean and safe workplace through ongoing housekeeping.
