• Experience as a Design Engineer in manufacturing, especially electronic design.
• Proficient in SolidWorks for 2D and 3D designs.
• Experience in generating Bill of Materials and prototyping.

Job description

• Position: Design Engineer
• Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 based on experience
• Location: Newhaven
• Hours: Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm

We are looking for a Design Engineer from a background in Design Engineering within manufacturing who has an understanding of electronic design, firmware and software. You’ll join a great company that is well established and who operate internationally.

As the Design Engineer you will work with both new products and in-market modifications.

Duties of this Design Engineer role include:

• Seeking out approaches to complex issues encountered by the design team and supporting implementing these into products
• Producing concepts and estimating project time scales and costs
• Product testing, issuing reports and verifying testing undertaken
• Working towards product recognition in industry design awards through collaborating with the marketing department
• Analysing competitor products / technologies and creating reports for management
• Generating technical documentation for new product development including 2D and 3D drawings
• Ensuring products are easy to manufacture, install and use. This role will investigate design methodologies to suit particular products
• Supporting in the development of project documentation and using best practices to design products on time and within budget
• Providing technical support internally and externally
• Assisting with internal and external audits from regulatory bodies such as ISO, UL, WRAS, CE
• Attending exhibitions and providing training where required, which may involve foreign and domestic travel

Skills & experience required:

• Previous experience as a Design Engineer within manufacturing, ideally electronic design engineering including understanding of firmware and software
• Experience with SolidWorks 2D and 3D
• Experience generating Bill of Materials
• Prototyping experience
• Experience of data analysis of testing and experience implementing production fixes
