Design Engineer (Remote)

This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a good technical background and demonstrable experience in producing foundations or geotechnical-based designs within the power T&D sector, including OHL or steel pylons and towers. The role involves occasional presence at the Midlands office, with the flexibility of working from home.

Our client is expanding and looking to appoint a Design Engineer responsible for supporting the design aspects across their power T&D division, covering projects in high voltage (HV), extra high voltage (EHV), overhead line (OHL) steel lattice towers, and pylons carrying overhead power lines and cables.

The successful candidate must review enquiry documentation to identify key project considerations. They should be a high-caliber professional with enthusiasm, drive, strong technical acumen, and a passion for ground engineering. A professional approach, keen eye for detail, and excellent communication and IT skills are essential.

The Person

1. Experience in designing piles and foundations using appropriate software packages.
2. Experience in designing piling works across various techniques, disciplines, and complexities.
3. Ability to work independently and communicate complex technical matters clearly in writing and verbally.
4. Enthusiastic, results-focused, and able to work under pressure and meet challenging deadlines.
5. Effective negotiation skills with internal and external clients and teams.

The Role

1. Understand and deliver client requirements, liaising with designers, clients, and main contractors to optimize engineering solutions.
2. Select appropriate piling and foundation techniques suited to ground conditions.
3. Conduct geotechnical analysis using in-house and commercial software, prepare reports, and respond to technical queries during the approval process.
4. Prepare settlement packs for review and participate in meetings.
5. Develop contract design documents, drawings, and schedules.
6. Be aware of risks, including health & safety, geotechnical, and commercial aspects.
7. Support the operation team during installation and produce as-built documentation post-construction.
8. Build long-term relationships with clients to encourage repeat business.
9. Coordinate and respond to client requests, gaining experience from colleagues.
10. Collaborate with other business units to achieve shared goals.
