Job summary

SP Energy Networks, part of the Iberdrola Group, is seeking a Design Engineer (OHL) in Glasgow/Cambuslang to drive pre-contract design information for overhead line projects up to 400 kV. You will develop specifications, review drawings, and ensure safety, quality, and environmental compliance across the project lifecycle.

You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, implement best practices, and contribute to Scotland's Net Zero goals.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering or HND with practical experience.
• Significant experience in Transmission network Overhead Lines and associated equipment.
• Experience delivering designs for high-value, complex Transmission Overhead Line projects.
• Strong written reports and technical documentation skills.
• Effective communication across departments and with senior management.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of developing pre-contract design information and provide technical guidance for project delivery teams, focusing on OHL systems.
• Prepare detailed engineering specifications and designs for high-value transmission projects, ensuring compliance with legislation and requirements.
• Review drawings and technical specifications for construction, procurement and stakeholders; define equipment requirements for System Construction Authorisation.
• Assist with resolving site and construction issues; provide technical expertise to Pre-Contract and Project Delivery teams on Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance.
• Prepare project quality documentation and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice within a design environment.

Working across global multidisciplinary Engineering teams, you will contribute to integrated, end-to-end solutions that keep our Transmission network operating reliably and efficiently.**What you'll bring**You will ideally hold a degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering or HND with equivalent practical experience and be working towards membership of a professional institution.Significant experience in an Engineering position focused on Transmission network Overhead Lines and associated equipment is essential. You must demonstrate proven capability in delivering Engineering solutions and Designs for high-value, complex Transmission Overhead Line projects.Effective communication skills are required, along with the ability to build productive working relationships across departments and businesses. You will need the capability to implement and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice within a Design environment, representing departments or project teams on Overhead Line Engineering issues, evaluations, standards and industry best practice.The ability to write clear, concise reports and technical documents is essential, as is the capability to communicate with and influence Senior Management.
