Job summary

Anne Corder Recruitment Ltd in Barnsley is seeking a Design Engineer to lead the design, development and implementation of production tooling, jigs and fixtures for existing and new products.

You'll collaborate with design, production and project teams to improve manufacturability, drive process improvements and support automation initiatives across Production. A mechanical engineering qualification and strong CAD skills are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• Degree or HND qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong experience using 3D and 2D CAD software in a manufacturing/production environment.
• Proven background in jig, fixture, tooling or bespoke equipment design.
• Good understanding of fabrication, machining, assembly, welding, and manufacturing processes.
• Strong project management, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, validation, and implementation of jigs, fixtures, and production tooling for existing and new products.
• Manage tooling projects from concept through manufacture, testing, commissioning, and production handover within agreed timescales and budgets.
• Produce detailed 3D models, technical drawings, BOMs and documentation for manufacturing and maintenance use.
• Collaborate with design, production and project teams to improve manufacturability and support automation initiatives.

Are you a Design Engineer with experience in manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and process improvement? Working closely with engineering and operational teams, you will play a key role in improving manufacturability, driving efficiency, and supporting the introduction of robust production processes.

Design Engineer - Barnsley - £42,000

Design Engineer (Jigs, Fixtures & Process Development) Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, validation, and implementation of jigs, fixtures, and production tooling for both existing and new products.
• Manage tooling projects from concept through manufacture, testing, commissioning, and production handover, ensuring delivery to agreed timescales and budgets.
• Produce detailed 3D models, technical drawings, bills of materials, and supporting documentation for manufacturing and maintenance purposes.
• Collaborate with design, production, and project engineering teams to improve manufacturability, support automation initiatives, and optimise production processes.
• Develop and maintain tooling standards, calibration procedures, maintenance schedules, and design records to ensure ongoing performance and compliance.

Skills & Experience Required as a Design Engineer:
