Job summary

Insight Select Limited in Blackpool, Lancashire, is seeking a hands-on Design Engineer to join the Product Design team. You will take products from design through to production, focusing on tooling, jigs, fixtures and CNC programming, collaborating with suppliers and the wider team to meet quality, cost and efficiency standards.

The role requires strong 3D CAD skills (ideally SolidWorks), the ability to create detailed 2D drawings, and a good grasp of manufacturing processes and production

Qualifications

• Strong experience using 3D CAD, ideally SolidWorks.
• Ability to produce detailed 2D engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of production tooling and design for manufacture.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop production jigs and fixtures using 3D CAD and 3D printing.
• Programme and support CNC machinery.
• Review, approve and sign off production tooling.
• Liaise with suppliers and wider supply chain to resolve technical issues.
• Attend tooling trials and assess first-off samples, with some potential overseas travel.
• Carry out dimensional checks against engineering drawings and specifications.
• Audit and improve production assembly methods.
• Conduct time and motion studies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Manage the existing tooling portfolio, including maintenance, modification and replacement.
• Produce detailed 2D component and assembly drawings.
• Maintain parts lists and Bills of Materials.

Job Ad - Design Engineer Design Engineer - Blackpool, Lancashire

A well-established manufacturing business is looking for a Design Engineer to join its Product Design team in Blackpool.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on taking products from design through to production, with particular responsibility for production tooling, jigs, fixtures and CNC programming. You'll work closely with suppliers, manufacturers and the wider Product Design team to ensure tooling and production methods meet the required quality, cost and efficiency standards.

What we're looking for:

• Strong experience using 3D CAD, ideally SolidWorks
• Experience producing detailed 2D engineering drawings
• Knowledge of different manufacturing processes
• Understanding of production tooling and Design for Manufacture
• Knowledge of CNC equipment and CNC programming
• Engineering, manufacturing or design experience
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Confident, proactive and self-motivated approach
• Good communication skills and ability to work to deadlines
• Full, clean UK driving licence

Desirable experience:

• Plastic moulding - rotational, injection or blow moulding
• 3D printing / rapid prototyping
• Tooling and toolmaking
• Time and motion studies
• Project management

A Mechanical or Design Engineering qualification such as an HNC, HND or degree would be beneficial.
