Anne Corder Recruitment Ltd in Barnsley is seeking a Design Engineer with experience designing jigs, fixtures and production tooling to support manufacturing. The role focuses on improving manufacturability, driving efficiency and implementing robust production processes.

You will lead tooling projects from concept through manufacture, collaborate with engineering and operations teams, and support automation initiatives and process optimisation.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, validation, and implementation of jigs, fixtures, and production tooling for existing and new products.
• Manage tooling projects from concept through manufacture, testing, commissioning, and production handover.
• Produce detailed 3D models, technical drawings, bills of materials, and supporting documentation.
• Collaborate with design, production, and project engineering teams to improve manufacturability and automate processes.
• Develop and maintain tooling standards, calibration procedures, maintenance schedules, and design records.

Are you a Design Engineer with experience in manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and process improvement? This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing business, supporting the design, development, and implementation of production tooling and bespoke equipment. Working closely with engineering and operational teams, you will play a key role in improving manufacturability, driving efficiency, and supporting the introduction of robust production processes.

Design Engineer - Barnsley - £42,000

Design Engineer (Jigs, Fixtures & Process Development) Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, validation, and implementation of jigs, fixtures, and production tooling for both existing and new products.
• Manage tooling projects from concept through manufacture, testing, commissioning, and production handover, ensuring delivery to agreed timescales and budgets.
• Produce detailed 3D models, technical drawings, bills of materials, and supporting documentation for manufacturing and maintenance purposes.
• Collaborate with design, production, and project engineering teams to improve manufacturability, support automation initiatives, and optimise production processes.
• Develop and maintain tooling standards, calibration procedures, maintenance schedules, and design records to ensure ongoing performance and compliance.

Skills & Experience Required as a Design Engineer:

• Degree or HND qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong experience using 3D and 2D CAD software, ideally within a manufacturing or production engineering environment.
• Proven background in jig, fixture, tooling, or bespoke equipment design.
• Good understanding of fabrication, machining, assembly, welding, and manufacturing processes.
• Strong project management, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
