18 Week Support Limited is seeking experienced Dermatology Surgical Healthcare Assistants to support weekend insourcing clinics across dermatology services. You will assist in pre-operative assessment, surgery preparation, intra-operative support and post-operative care in busy outpatient settings, helping reduce NHS waiting times.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience supporting dermatology theatres
• At least 6 months in past 12 months
• Experience as NHS dermatology theatre HCA
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Organisational skills and attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Support pre-operative assessment and preparation for dermatological surgery
• Assist dermatologist, surgeon or clinician during procedures (skin biopsies, excisions, curettage, punch biopsies, minor skin cancer procedures, Mohs surgery where applicable)
• Maintain aseptic technique and a sterile field
• Handle instruments and specimens appropriately
• Monitor patient condition and provide reassurance during procedures
• Recognise and respond to complications promptly
• Manage specimens and post-operative care
• Provide patient education and support
• Assist with documentation and clinical governance
• Team working within the multidisciplinary team

Job summary
We are currently seeking experienced Dermatology Surgical Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) to support weekend insourcing clinics, helping deliver NHS waiting list initiatives across a range of dermatology services.
This is an excellent opportunity to join experienced teams delivering high-quality patient care within busy outpatient settings, supporting clinicians and patients throughout their clinic journey.
Main duties of the job
Responsibilities include supporting with:

• Pre-operative assessment
• Preparing for dermatological surgery
• Intra-operative assistance
• Assist the dermatologist, dermatological surgeon or other clinician during procedures such as: Skin biopsies; Excision of skin lesions; Curettage and cautery; Punch biopsies; Minor skin cancer procedures; Mohs surgery, where applicable
• Maintain aseptic technique and a safe sterile field.
• Handle instruments and specimens appropriately.
• Monitor the patients condition and provide reassurance throughout the procedure.
• Recognise and respond promptly to complications
• Specimen management
• Post-operative care
• Patient education and support
• Medicines and local anaesthetics
• Documentation and clinical governance
• Team working

Requirements
To be considered, you must:

• Have recent, hands‑on experience supporting dermatology theatres
• Have been actively undertaking this work for at least 6 months within the past 12 months

You will also have:

• Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within an NHS dermatology theatre setting
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Organisational skills and attention to detail
• A patient‑focused approach with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
