Watford Grammar School for Boys invites applications for an Assistant SENDCo to work with the SENDCo, developing SEND provision and supporting day-to-day operations of the Learning Support department.
The role includes coordinating interventions, maintaining SEND records, supporting transitions, staff training, and a classroom teaching commitment of 3–6 hours per week at Key Stages 3 and 4.
The Assistant SENDCo will work closely with the SENDCo to lead and develop SEND provision across the school, supporting the effective day-to-day operation of the Learning Support department. The role includes responsibility for agreed areas of SEND provision, supporting the management of Learning Support Assistants, and ensuring that students with SEND receive high-quality, personalised support.
The successful candidate will work with students, families, teaching staff and external agencies to coordinate interventions, contribute to statutory processes including EHCPs and annual reviews, and promote inclusive classroom practice across the school. They will maintain accurate SEND records, support transition arrangements and help deliver staff training. The role also includes a classroom teaching commitment of 3-6 hours per week at Key Stages 3 and 4.
We are looking for a qualified and experienced teacher with a strong understanding of SEND in a mainstream setting and a genuine commitment to supporting students to achieve their full potential. The ideal candidate will have a sound knowledge of EHCPs, the SEND Code of Practice and inclusive practice, together with the confidence to advise colleagues and lead areas of SEND provision.
Highly organised, proactive and collaborative, you will be able to build positive relationships with students, families, staff and external professionals, while effectively guiding and supporting Learning Support Assistants. You will have high expectations for the achievement, inclusion and independence of students with SEND. and be willing to undertake the SENCO qualification where required.
Experience of SEND leadership, examination access arrangements, interventions or managing support staff would be advantageous.
