Job summary

Autism West Midlands is seeking a Deputy Manager for our St Paul’s supported living home in Smethwick. The role supports the registered manager, balancing office days with direct support, and involves shifts from early to late and occasional weekends. A full UK driving licence is preferred.

The Deputy Manager will promote high standards and person-centred care, ensuring regulatory compliance while empowering autistic adults to live as independently as possible with appropriate levels of support.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Promote an enabling environment with high professional standards and regulatory compliance (CQC, internal policies, external contracts).
  • Ensure support is led by the person with meaningful activities in home and community.
  • Empower autistic individuals to live as independently as possible with appropriate support.
  • Conduct person-centred reviews involving the person and their supporters.
  • Deputise for the Registered Manager in service delivery, communications, safeguarding, and CQC responsibilities.
  • Rota-based on-call duties as required.

Where will I be working?

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Manager to support the registered manager. You will be working at our supported living establishment ‘St Pauls’ in Smethwick. St Paul’s has provided permanent accommodation for 8 adults with Autism since it opened in 2003.

The role includes a mix of office days and direct support.

The Shifts are 7.00am – 2.30pm and 2.15pm – 9.45pm. All staff work a mixture of early and late shifts as well as alternate weekends. This role also involves direct support and preferably will need to be a driver with UK full Licence.

As the Deputy Manager at St Pauls, you will be responsible for:

  • Promoting an enabling environment, ensuring high standards of professional practice, whilst achieving compliance with the standards required by CQC, internal policies and procedures and external contract requirements.
  • To ensure that the support provided is led by the person and offers new experiences through a wide range of meaningful activities within their home and local community.
  • To empower autistic individuals to live as independently as possible with the appropriate levels of support.
  • Conduct person centered reviews at appropriate intervals, involving the person and their circles of support
  • Deputise for the Registered Manager in all aspects of the service delivery including communications with parents and professionals, safeguarding and CQC, taking a lead in key responsibilities
  • Rational on call duties is also required for this post

What we are looking for:

  • Substantial training or a qualification relevant to a supervisory position in social care or a related field
  • An understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks of registered care services and Person-centred practice
  • Experience of working in relevant settings with autistic adults, learning disabilities, or mental illness
  • Strong leadership personality with a natural ability to positively shape the work of others
  • Able to work flexibly across a seven-day rota to meet the needs of the service
