Job summary

Halfords is seeking a Designate Deputy Manager to support store leadership across local outlets. This role requires a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle to travel between stores.

You will lead in-store teams, coach colleagues, and drive customer service excellence while advancing toward a permanent Deputy Manager position. Key responsibilities include motivating teams, adapting to a fast-paced retail environment, and ensuring high standards of service.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of managerial experience in retail.
• Ability to coach and develop colleagues.
• Knowledge of health and safety and retail operations compliance.
• Experience with staff scheduling and time management.
• Ability to deliver real-time coaching and training to improve customer experiences.
• Track record of meeting sales targets including attachment sales.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of the retail environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and learning in-house systems.

Job description

This is a Designate position. Therefore, a full driving licence as well as access to a vehicle is crucial for this role. As a Designate Deputy Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting our management team across local stores in your area. You will lead in-store teams through encouragement and motivation while receiving comprehensive training to prepare for your permanent role as Deputy Manager. With a strong support network, you’ll be equipped to deliver exceptional leadership and customer service.

What We’re Looking For

• At least one year of managerial experience, preferably in a retail sales environment.
• Experience in managing and coaching colleagues.
• Knowledge of compliance standards in health and safety and retail operations.
• Skills in labor scheduling and effective time management.
• Proven ability to deliver coaching and training in real time to enhance customer experiences.
• Track record of achieving sales targets, including attachment sales.
• Strong commercial acumen and understanding of the current operating environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn in‑house systems.
