Job summary

Kara Healthcare in Leicester is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to step into a Deputy Manager role in a hands-on leadership position at a care home. You will work closely with the Home Manager to ensure safe, high-quality, person-centred care for residents.

The role requires strong clinical knowledge, senior nursing experience, and the ability to lead a team in a dementia/care home setting. A current NMC registration is essential and you will be based on site at the Leicester home.

Qualifications

• Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse is essential.
• Experience as a nurse within care homes, nursing homes, hospitals, or similar healthcare settings.
• Experience with older people and/or dementia or complex care needs.
• Previous experience in a senior nursing or care leadership role.

Responsibilities

• Support the Home Manager with day-to-day running of the care home.
• Provide clinical leadership to nurses and care staff.
• Maintain high standards of clinical care as a Registered Nurse.
• Ensure residents receive safe, compassionate, person-centred care.
• Support assessment, monitoring and review of residents' health and wellbeing.
• Support safe medication management and clinical procedures.
• Ensure care plans and clinical records are accurate and up-to-date.
• Liaise with GPs, district nurses, pharmacists, hospitals and other professionals.
• Support staff with clinical decision-making and complex care needs.
• Support recruitment, induction, supervision and development of colleagues.
• Monitor staffing levels and ensure appropriate staffing of the home.
• Assist with audits, inspections and CQC compliance.
• Identify areas for improvement and implement action plans.
• Manage incidents, complaints, safeguarding concerns and issues.

What You'll Be Doing

As Deputy Manager, you'll work alongside the Home Manager to support the day-to-day running of the home while providing strong clinical and operational leadership.

You'll be involved in supporting residents, developing colleagues, maintaining standards, and helping the home continue to improve.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the Home Manager with the day-to-day running of the care home.
• Providing clinical leadership and guidance to nurses and care colleagues.
• Working as a Registered Nurse and maintaining high standards of clinical care.
• Ensuring residents receive safe, compassionate, and person-centred care.
• Supporting the assessment, monitoring, and review of residents' health and wellbeing.
• Supporting safe medication management and clinical procedures.
• Ensuring care plans and clinical records are accurate, current, and person-centred.
• Liaising with GPs, district nurses, pharmacists, hospitals, and other healthcare professionals.
• Supporting staff with clinical decision-making and complex care needs.
• Supporting recruitment, induction, supervision, and development of colleagues.
• Helping monitor staffing levels and ensuring the home is appropriately staffed.
• Supporting audits, inspections, and CQC compliance.
• Helping identify areas for improvement and putting action plans into place.
• Supporting the management of incidents, complaints, safeguarding concerns, and other issues.
• Promoting a positive, supportive, and accountable culture within the home.
• Taking responsibility for the home in the Home Manager's absence.
• Building strong relationships with residents, families, and colleagues.
• Ensuring residents' dignity, choice, independence, and wellbeing remain at the heart of everything we do.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced Registered Nurse who is ready to take on a senior leadership role within adult social care.

You'll ideally have:

• Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse – essential.
• Previous experience working as a nurse within a care home, nursing home, hospital, or similar healthcare setting.
• Experience working with older people and/or individuals living with dementia or complex care needs.
• Previous experience in a senior nursing or care leadership role.
• Strong clinical knowledge and decision-making skills.
• Experience supervising, supporting, or leading other colleagues.
• A good understanding of CQC requirements and adult social care regulations.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding and clinical governance.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• The confidence to make decisions and deal with challenging situations.
• A caring, professional, and positive approach.

Previous experience as a Deputy Manager, Clinical Lead, Senior Nurse, Unit Manager, or similar senior nursing position would be advantageous.

Relevant leadership or management qualifications would also be beneficial.
