Job summary

Fleetville Infant & Nursery School is seeking a Deputy Headteacher to join the senior leadership team. You will lead and model outstanding practice across Early Years and Key Stage 1, with expert knowledge of the EYFS framework, early reading and phonics, and child-led learning to secure strong foundations for every child.

You will drive inclusion and SEN provision, coaching staff and sustaining high standards in teaching, assessment, and curriculum.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership in an Early Years or primary setting.
• Deep knowledge of EYFS, early literacy and numeracy.
• Strong relational and communication skills across the school community.
• Ambitious mindset with commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.
• Experience coaching and developing staff is desirable.

Job description

The Role: Deputy Headteacher

Working as a key member of the senior leadership team alongside our collaborative staff, you will:

• Drive EYFS & KS1 Excellence: Lead and model outstanding practice across Early Years and Key Stage 1, applying expert knowledge of the EYFS framework, early reading/phonics, and child-led learning to ensure strong foundations for every child.
• Ensure high standards in SEN Provision & Inclusion: Support our Special Educational Needs strategy, ensuring inclusive classroom practices, targeted interventions, and tailored support for pupils with additional needs.
• Cultivate High Standards: Inspire high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment across the school, maintaining an ambitious curriculum that drives exceptional pupil progress and well-being.
• Support Operational & Strategic Leadership: Partner closely with the Headteacher in the day-to-day running of the school, line-managing staff, and building strong, trusted relationships with families and external partners.
• Mentor & Empower Staff: Coach teachers and support staff, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous professional growth, and shared responsibility.

What We're Looking For

You will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with proven, successful leadership experience in an Early Years or primary setting;
• Deep expertise in Early Years Education, EYFS pedagogy, early child development, and early literacy and numeracy;
• Exceptional relational skills and a proven ability to build warm, positive, and trusted relationships across the school community;
• An ambitious mindset paired with excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills;
• An uncompromising commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
