Job summary

Wollaton Park Golf Club, Nottinghamshire, is seeking an experienced Deputy Head Greenkeeper to lead day-to-day management and maintenance of a renowned golf course, delivering exceptional playing conditions and presentation year-round. Working with the Head Greenkeeper, you will supervise the greenkeeping team, plan aeration and turf renovations, and ensure safety and high standards across all machinery and operations.

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent is desirable; PA certificates are a plus.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Greenkeeping or equivalent is required or desirable.
• PA1, PA2 and PA6 certificates advantageous.
• Experience in a senior greenkeeper or deputy head role.
• Strong turf management knowledge and presentation standards.
• Leadership and health & safety compliance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in daily management and maintenance of the golf course and grounds.
• Ensure premium presentation and playing standards across the course.
• Conduct inspections of greens, tees, fairways, bunkers and irrigation systems.
• Support planning of aeration, top dressing and turf renovation projects.
• Monitor turf health and address issues proactively.
• Supervise, motivate and support the greenkeeping team.
• Allocate daily tasks and ensure safe, efficient work.
• Assist with training and development of team members.
• Promote a positive, collaborative working environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the daily management and maintenance of the golf course and surrounding grounds
• Ensure the course consistently meets a premium in presentation and playing standards
• Conduct regular inspections of greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, roughs and irrigation systems
• Support the planning and delivery of aeration programmes, top dressing operations, turf renovation projects and seasonal maintenance activities
• Monitor turf health and proactively identify and address potential issues
• Supervise, motivate and support the greenkeeping team
• Allocate daily tasks and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
• Assist with the training and development of team members
• Promote a positive and collaborative working environment
• Ensure the safe and effective operation of maintenance machinery and equipment
• Support compliance with health & safety legislation and industry best practice
• Assist with irrigation system monitoring, maintenance and performance management

Qualifications

• Previous experience within a senior Greenkeeper, Deputy Head Greenkeeper or similar sports turf management role
• Strong knowledge of turf management, horticultural practices and golf course maintenance operations
• Experience supervising, motivating and developing teams within a grounds maintenance or sports turf environment
• Excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills
• Strong understanding of health & safety requirements and safe working practices
• Experience operating and maintaining a range of greenkeeping machinery and equipment
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Greenkeeping, Sports Turf or a related discipline desirable
• PA1, PA2 and PA6 certificates advantageous
• Experience working on regionally recognised or high‑profile golf courses beneficial
• Knowledge of irrigation systems and maintenance practices desirable
• Passion for delivering exceptional playing surfaces and presentation standards
