Coppa Club’s The Great House in Sonning seeks a Deputy General Manager with a background in premium hospitality. You would be the real second-in-command, owning daily operations, standards, and the guest experience while developing a high-performing team.

Qualifications

• Background in premium hospitality—boutique hotels, high-end restaurant groups, members' clubs, or similar guest-obsessed environments.
• P&L ownership, labour and stock control, and the judgement to know where to spend and where to hold the line.
• Proven track record of building teams that stay because they are led well, not just managed.
• Demonstrated ability to run a demanding floor at pace without guest-facing disruption.
• Strong eye for details that separate good from exceptional service.

Responsibilities

• Deputising fully for the General Manager—this is true second-in-command territory.
• Owning day-to-day operational performance: staffing, service standards, financials, and stock.
• Coaching and developing a team that can carry the venue's reputation forward.
• Acting as a guardian of the guest experience—spotting what needs fixing before it becomes a problem.
• Building relationships with regulars, local business, and the broader Coppa Club network.
• Working closely with the GM on commercial and strategic direction with a pathway to GM progression.

The Great House is where Coppa Club began, a former Elizabethan coaching inn on a quiet stretch of the Thames. With guest rooms, events and a busy restaurant under one roof, there's plenty to learn and room to grow.

We are looking for a Deputy General Manager who's spent their career around genuine hospitality — not just service, but standards. Someone who's worked somewhere guests return to because of how it felt, not just what was on the menu.

This is a role for someone ready to step straight into being the number two at a premium, multi-faceted venue — riverside, hotel-adjacent, all-day dining, events — and run it like it's theirs.

What you'll bring

• A background in premium hospitality — boutique hotels, high-end restaurant groups, members' clubs, or similarly guest-obsessed environments — where you've been accountable for standards, not just shifts.
• Genuine commercial fluency: P&L ownership, labour and stock control, and the judgement to know where to spend and where to hold the line.
• A track record of building teams that stay — because they're led well, not just managed.
• The composure to run a demanding floor at pace without it ever showing to the guest.
• An eye for the details that separate good from exceptional: how a table's set, how a complaint's handled, how a shift closes.
