Deputy Director for Environmental Markets & Regulation - 30904

We are seeking an experienced leader to support the Environment Agency's efforts in delivering a circular and Net-Zero economy by regulating market-based schemes. This permanent role involves providing strategic leadership for our specialist operational teams, working with government, industry, and regulators to implement emerging and existing regulatory regimes.

The successful candidate will:

1. Lead and manage diverse, geographically dispersed teams responsible for regulation of waste, carbon, chemicals, and international waste shipments.
2. Work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop and enforce regulatory standards, ensuring high-impact national and international outcomes.
3. Navigate complex political and regulatory environments, translating policy into effective operational delivery.
4. Champion health, safety, wellbeing, diversity, and inclusion within the team.
5. Contribute to wider agency goals through leadership on national regulation and monitoring initiatives.

Key requirements include proven operational leadership, experience managing complex programs, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders. A professional qualification in any discipline is preferred.

This role reports to Malcolm Lythgo, Director of Operations, and involves responding to incidents, with full training provided. Virtual interviews are scheduled for late July 2025.
