We are looking for an innovative and forward-thinking EIA expert driven by positive environmental schemes that make a difference to lead our ambitious and driven EIA team.
The role will be accountable for leading and developing the EIA growth strategy in line with the Planning and Lanpro Business Plans, and for collaboration across all divisions nationally. Working closely with commercial, operational, discipline directors and key stakeholders, such as Finance and HR, to drive growth and profitability across the business line.
To deliver the required financial and growth targets. To take overall responsibility for the Unit, including management of current activities, development, and implementation of future strategy, and the management and engagement of the team to deliver that business strategy.
Management of the EIA Business Unit
- Overall responsibility for the running of the Unit. Always seeking to achieve objectives whilst maintaining the appropriate balance between opportunity and risk.
- Implement appropriate strategies and processes to ensure delivery of business unit and company targets.
- Participate in the Monthly Planning Board Meeting ensuring key decisions are taken in the best interests of the Unit, Division and Stakeholders of the business.
- Adhere to all Lanpro Services reporting requirements, including alerting the Planning and Governance Boards to significant opportunities or risks as they arise.
- Ensure the Unit runs in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures and the sharing of best practice with all stakeholders.
- Implement policy and procedures, including sharing best practice.
- Chair and direct a weekly meeting with the Unit to ensure that all aspects are performing to target and put in place action plans where necessary to ensure remedial actions.
- Ensure tender pricing is governed and signed off appropriately.
- Liaise closely with Planning Director – Business Unit Lead to ensure a working knowledge of the progress to date and issues arising the Unit at any time.
People, Culture & Development
- Enable the right number, level, and calibre of employees to be recruited and developed to support the unit’s existing instructions and future development (in collaboration with the Head of People and Talent).
- Lead, motivate, communicate with, and develop team members to achieve the best performance to meet the Unit’s needs.
- Identify team members for future career progression and work with the Director of Planning – Business Unit Lead, and Human Resources Department, to ensure their development.
- Host and contribute to business update events for all staff to communicate the Business Unit’s performance and future strategy to ensure alignment.
- Ensure that all appropriate information from the Management Meeting / Planning Board Meeting is communicated to the team and encourage employees to voice their concerns or suggestions for improvement.
- Ensure that all employees understand the requirements of their job and perform to a satisfactory standard.
- Committed to CPD in pursuit of continuous learning and self-improvement across personal development as well as technical development.
- Broad and deep knowledge of their technical speciality or professional area. Understanding of its importance to the wider practice, clients and other organisations and will use this to enable technical development of others as well as assistance to support others gaining professional accreditation.
- Promote a client focussed culture in the business.
Delivering Our Projects
- Responsible for the P&L, budget, profitability and SHEQ aspects for specific area(s), activity, and/or project(s).
- Responsible for predicting and planning future resources including consulting with other divisions across Lanpro to ensure effective utilisation of team(s).
- Effectively manages significant and complex projects to a high standard, with no supervision.
- Take a key role in projects within relevant specialised field and provides technical leadership.
- Manages the delivery of projects.
- Leading the preparation of tender responses.
- Undertaking site inspections and assessing the merits of proposals.
Health & Safety
Overall responsibility for the provision of effective Health & Safety for the Unit in accordance with Lanpro Health & Safety policy and with the support from the wider Business Unit and Company. In carrying out this important duty, the Technical Director has the full backing of the Planning Board.

A strong understanding of EIA processes, methodologies, and relevant environmental regulations is crucial.
Project Management
Experience in leading and managing complex projects, including budget management, staff resource allocation, and timelines.

The ability to lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams, effectively communicate with stakeholders, and manage client relationships.
Communication
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and the ability to engage with diverse audiences.
Professional Membership
Membership in relevant professional bodies can be an advantage.
Industry Experience And Connections
Experience working in the EIA field, either within a consulting firm or an industry that requires EIAs, is highly valued. Well connected in external relations in local councils and borough councils is desirable.
