Job summary

FirstGroup plc is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Rochdale Depot's engineering team. You will direct workshop operations, ensure fleet availability, and drive safety, compliance, and cost-effective engineering practices.

You will develop your team, manage budgets, and implement process improvements in line with regulatory standards, keeping strong communication with senior management and cross-functional colleagues.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance legislation (VOSA, MOT, safety inspections).
• Proven leadership and team development capabilities.
• Experience with SAP and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead and motivate a team of engineering professionals.
• Oversee depot and workshop operations.
• Ensure compliance with HSE, engineering policies and legislation.
• Monitor budgets and costs.
• Drive performance to minimise downtime and lost mileage.
• Conduct staff training and development planning.
• Ensure statutory vehicle maintenance and quality standards.
• Communicate with senior management and cross-functional teams.
• Develop and implement engineering processes and continuous improvement.
• Manage subcontracted work and contractor performance.
• Maintain a positive safety culture.
