Job description

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Commercial Trading Underwriter to join our UK-wide Delegated Authority/Schemes team.

Role overview:

As a Technical Underwriter, you will service brokers with delegated authority for specific commercial insurance schemes. You will act as the main contact for referrals outside the broker’s delegated authority, working closely with brokers to assess these referrals. This role requires a proactive learning mentality and excellent communication skills.

This position is suitable for an experienced Technical Underwriter from either a broker or insurer background who is passionate about career development and relationship nurturing.

Key responsibilities:

1. Handle daily referrals outside brokers' delegated authority with clear rationale.
2. Support Schemes Underwriting Lead; deliver initiatives and recommend system improvements.
3. Maintain robust knowledge of scheme governance and regulatory requirements related to delegation of authority.
4. Train, develop, and mentor less experienced colleagues.
5. Continuously develop personal skills in line with Licence to Grade requirements.

Skills and experience required:

1. Proven experience in Commercial Motor and/or Commercial Property & Liability underwriting.
2. Ability to handle complex risks and technical referrals, supporting junior team members.
3. Confidence in leading broker discussions to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
