Job summary

Booker Group is seeking a Debt Collector to join our Finance team in Deeside. You will proactively manage and recover outstanding debts, negotiate repayment plans, and work with customers to resolve accounts efficiently.

Strong communication and organisation are essential to excel in this role. You will handle payments, queries, and contribute to period-end reporting while coordinating with the Legal team on forensics and action where needed.

• Knowledge of legal debt recovery procedures beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Proactively chase outstanding debt via telephone, email, letters and text.
• Negotiate repayment plans with customers.
• Process customer payments through the online payment system.
• Manage customer and branch queries with high levels of service.
• Decide when cases should be referred for legal action and liaise with Legal team.
• Complete daily diary calls and manage workload.
• Prepare period-end reports, reconciliations and bad debt information on time.
• Reconcile Bad Debt General Ledger accounts at period end.
• Support wider Debt Collection team and cover holidays/sickness.
• Collaborate with Finance and Operations to reduce ageing debt and legal costs.

About the role

We are looking for a Debt Collector to join our Finance team based in Deeside.

In this role, you will be responsible for proactively managing and recovering outstanding customer debt referred to Head Office, working with customers to agree repayment arrangements and helping to ensure debts are resolved effectively and efficiently.

You’ll also work closely with colleagues across the business, as well as external customers and organisations, making this a varied role where strong communication, organisation and customer service skills are key.

Main Responsibilities

Proactively chasing outstanding debt using telephone, email, letters and text.

Negotiating appropriate repayment plans with customers.

Processing customer payments through the online payment system.

Managing customer and branch queries and providing a high level of customer service.

Making decisions on when cases should be referred for legal action and liaising with the Legal team as required.

Completing daily diary calls and effectively managing your workload.

Preparing period-end reports, reconciliations and bad debt information within required timescales.

Reconciling Bad Debt General Ledger accounts at period end.

Supporting the wider Debt Collection team, including providing holiday and sickness cover where required.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across Finance and Operations to help reduce ageing debt and minimise legal costs.

You will need

Previous experience working within Collections.

Excellent communication and customer service skills.

A positive, persistent and proactive approach.

Strong organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise your workload and meet deadlines.

The ability to work under pressure and use your own initiative.

Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

The ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Knowledge of SAP would be advantageous.

Knowledge of legal debt recovery procedures would be beneficial, but is not essential.
