Job Description:

The Role

KPMG’s Energy and Natural Resources (“ENR”) tax practice covers Oil and Gas, Mining, Power and Utilities (including renewables) and Chemicals. As our clients are facing unprecedented change with the energy transition and fiscal uncertainty, our ENR tax and legal practice is growing significantly.

Our clients include some of the largest global ENR companies, both UK-based and inbound groups. Our work spans deal advisory support, international tax, and domestic tax advice. A successful candidate will have opportunities to work across these areas.

Our Deal Advisory Tax services include advising on the full spectrum of deals, from vendor assistance, refinancing, and due diligence to buy-side structuring. We help clients understand historical tax issues and structure transactions, focusing on maximizing value throughout the investment cycle. Our work often involves cross-country, multi-tax, and multi-stream advice.

Our tax advisory services include supporting clients through business and fiscal changes, such as entering new jurisdictions, developing new business areas, reorganizations, refinancing, leasing, windfall taxes, and global fiscal reforms like BEPS 2.0 Pillar 2.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Partners and/or Directors on complex engagements to deliver exceptional advice and service.
  • Support in pursuing new opportunities, including proposals and pitches.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Serve as a key KPMG contact for clients, legal advisers, and internal teams to ensure effective delivery.
  • Coach and develop colleagues, collaborate with peers, and engage in continuous learning.
  • Prepare and oversee detailed technical advice on UK and international tax issues.
  • Analyze tax documents and data, highlighting key issues and their commercial impact.
  • Collaborate with UK and overseas tax specialists, critically evaluating their input.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK and OECD tax developments.
  • Understand financial models from a tax perspective.
  • Contribute to thought leadership initiatives.

The Person

  • Qualified CTA, ACA/CA, or equivalent.
  • Ambitious, enthusiastic, with a keen interest in transactions.
  • Previous experience in the ENR sector is advantageous but not mandatory; a strong interest and willingness to learn are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Solid UK corporate tax knowledge and awareness of other tax and accounting matters.
  • Analytical, curious, and commercially minded problem-solver.
  • Good project management skills, ability to work collaboratively, and initiative to drive projects.
  • Ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Coaching skills for colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.

While some client-facing professionals may travel or be based at client sites, our Deal Advisory Tax team supports flexible working arrangements. We encourage discussions about individual needs and can connect you with team members working flexibly to share their experiences.
